Since the early dawn of time

Since the early dawn of time
When primeval poets invented rhyme
You have been what drive them mad—
Never a sweeter sickness has man had.

So, since you are here, please indulge
This bliss-bound bard while I divulge
Since when, and why, and how my dear
I’ve known my love for you is sincere.

When I was young, but only ten,
I met a girl whose heart was crystalline,
Shimmering and shining on all she knew.
Livya, that little girl was you!

When life threw at you Up’s and Down’s
You took each the same with very few frowns.
Your heart, I found, was diamond throughout:
A hard, but heavenly, gem I knew I could not do without.

Since those days you’ve grown to be
The friend, the inspiration that proves to me
I do not have to break a glass
Or jump a broom
To know I want to be your groom

Lord, our God, look down I pray
Upon what we create this day.
And, if asked to throw in my two cents
Forevermore I’ll say it is…

Since the early dawn of time,
When primeval poets invented rhyme
That you have been what drive them mad—
Never a sweeter sickness has any man had.
